A measurement institution, not a signal shop
ZenFlare exists to answer one question with engineering instead of conviction: what, in retail trading, is actually true?
The machine behind this site records market ticks around the clock from the source (millions per instrument, including real bid/ask — because the spread you actually pay is data, not an assumption), tests every hypothesis against an honest simulator, runs the rare survivor in shadow against the live market without risking anything, and publishes what it finds. Mostly it finds graves. We publish those first.
The house rules
- Measure before ship. Backtest → shadow → verdict. Nothing skips the line. Nothing trades live today, and nothing will without passing a trial whose rules were frozen before the data.
- One ruler. The same code that scores the backtest scores the shadow trades and the paper trades. Two rulers is how you lie to yourself by accident.
- Honest fills or nothing. Our simulator fills stops on gap bars at the adverse extreme, because that's where they fill in life. This single rule killed our first strategy and we kept the rule.
- Gross is not net. No performance number is discussed without measured — not assumed — costs overlaid. Numbers that flatter are numbers that lie.
- Negative results are products. "This doesn't work, and here's exactly why" is the most useful sentence in retail trading. We sell it for free.
- Discipline is enforced by architecture, not intention. Hard limits, halts, cooldowns, kill switches — and a permanent deviation log recording every attempt to bend a rule, human or machine. The log's proudest state is empty.
What's running right now
Thirteen instruments recorded continuously across three asset classes. One strategy candidate in shadow and on paper, on trial, with the verdict locked until 40 qualifying trades (~September 2026). One known-dead strategy still running in shadow as a calibration instrument. One product in build: ZenJournal. Zero live positions.
Nothing is for sale here today. No signals are provided. If signals are ever offered, it will only be after three gates have opened in public: the Trial passes its frozen bar, the strategy survives live testing on our own account, and the proper regulatory licensing is in place. Until all three — nothing.
